Yogasleep Dohm Classic
Real fan white noise — no looping rainforest, no app, no midnight Bluetooth
The Dohm Classic (formerly Marpac) is a mechanical fan in a shell: analog white noise without a recorded loop. Two speeds and a rotating housing change tone. Pair with the white-noise and sleep-optimization guides. Phones on the nightstand are still a worse idea than this $50 brick.
Typical price: $40 – $55 USD
How It Works
Steady masking noise can help sleep onset when the environment is the problem (traffic, partners, plumbing). It does not fix sleep apnea, caffeine at 4pm, or a 1am phone. Some people habituate; others need it forever. Volume should not compete with a smoke alarm.
Mechanical Fan
Air through a housing makes broadband noise. No MP3 loop to start noticing at 3am.
Two Speeds + Cap
Rotate the cover to brighten or dull the tone. Low is enough for most bedrooms.
Outlet, Not App
No firmware, no sunrise alarm upsell. Unplug if you travel — it is not tiny.
What You'll Experience
First Nights
Days 1–3The fan sound is obvious. Place it away from the pillow if it feels harsh.
Habit
Week 2+Travel without it can feel loud. That is conditioning, not addiction — pack it or use a fallback.
Benefits
No Loop Fatigue
AnecdotalThe reason people still buy a 1970s design in 2026.
Partner / City Noise
Moderate EvidenceUseful when the problem is the hallway, not your circadian biology.
Risks & Considerations
Too Loud
low riskChronic high volume is not free. Keep it conversational-masking, not jet-engine.
Infants
medium riskNursery placement should follow pediatric distance/volume guidance — not the adult nightstand.
Community Reviews
Synthesized consensus from Reddit, forums, and expert sources.
Called the last analog gadget worth owning. Complaints are size, fan dust, and wanting it quieter. Consensus: low speed, across the room.
